3d Adventurer waves a friendly hello
“Cromwell lived round here… He’s still dead…”
St Ives – 17th April – Telling It – a spoken word event that provided a change to the norm on a Sunday afternoon in a gentle Cambridgeshire Market town.
A full-house in the fabulous Corn Exchange and 9 different authors reading extracts from their books, novels, poems and short stories. All MC’d terrifically by Collette, who imbibes her own delivery of readings with drama and style and organised by Mark. Proof, if ever it was needed, that one man, with a passion for art, can and will make a difference to his locality. Without him, the fifty or so attendees and the writers would all have been sat at home watching reruns of Eastenders or been standing down at the pub. (Although, to be fair, that is where most of us ended up after the event… the pub… not Eastenders).
The day kicked off with me, reading from Face Value – the bit where the two cops visit a pub… (a theme I think) but in the surroundings of St Ives, most of the audience knew the real pub the fictional location was based on, so it added a depth of authenticity. (Oh Lord, protect us… 🙂  – and no, that won’t make any sense if you’re not familiar with the area…

Thanks to all that turned up and those from all around who sent messages of support 🙂 Next up is the London Book Fair then the St Ives Corn Exchange on the 17th…
